  • Minimal Ingredients: Only two base ingredients plus some optional add-ins make this recipe straightforward and budget-friendly.
  • Festive: The red, white, and blue swirls with star sprinkles make this fudge a perfect treat for patriotic celebrations like Memorial Day, the 4th of July, and Labor Day.
  • Creamy: The combination of white chocolate and sweetened condensed milk creates a rich, creamy texture that’s hard to resist.

Ingredients Needed

  • White chocolate chips
  • Sweetened condensed milk
  • Red and blue food coloring
  • Star sprinkles

How to Make Patriotic Fudge

  1. Prepare the Pan: Line an 8×8 dish with parchment paper to ensure easy removal and cutting of the finished fudge.
  2. Melt the Chocolate: Use a double boiler to melt the white chocolate chips, which helps prevent the chocolate from hardening.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Stir the sweetened condensed milk into the melted chocolate until well combined.
  4. Add Color: Drop 2 drops each of red and blue food coloring into the fudge mixture. Pouring the mixture into the prepared pan will swirl naturally, creating a beautiful pattern.
  5. Add Sprinkles: Top the fudge with star sprinkles, gently pressing them into the surface.
  6. Chill: Freeze the fudge for 30 minutes to set.
  7. Cut and Serve: Remove from the freezer, lift the fudge out using the parchment paper, and cut it into 36 squares.

Recipe Pro Tips

  • Use High-Quality White Chocolate: This ensures the best flavor and smoothest texture.
  • Control the Swirl: If you prefer more distinct swirls, you can gently stir the fudge in the pan before it sets.
  • Patience with Melting: White chocolate can be temperamental, so melt it slowly over low heat using the double boiler method to avoid burning.

What to Serve with Fudge

  • Beverages: Pair with a glass of cold milk, iced coffee, or a refreshing lemonade.
  • Dessert Spread: Serve alongside other festive treats like berry tarts, ice cream, or patriotic-themed cookies.
  • Party Platter: Add to a dessert platter with fresh fruits, nuts, and other candies for a delicious display.

Storage

  • Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • Refrigeration: For a firmer texture, keep the fudge in the refrigerator. It will last up to two weeks.
  • Freezing: Fudge can be frozen for up to three months. Wrap individual pieces in plastic wrap and store them in a freezer-safe bag.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Different Chocolate: Try using milk or dark chocolate chips for a different flavor profile.
  • Color Variations: Adjust the food coloring to fit other holiday themes, like green and red for Christmas or pastels for Easter.
  • Flavor Add-ins: Mix in a teaspoon of vanilla extract or a few drops of peppermint extract for a flavor twist.

Recipe FAQs

Can I use other types of chocolate? Yes, you can use milk or dark chocolate chips instead of white chocolate, though the color effect will be different.

What if I don’t have a double boiler? You can use a microwave in short bursts, stirring frequently to ensure the chocolate melts evenly without burning.

Can I make this fudge ahead of time? Absolutely! This fudge can be made a few days in advance and stored in an airtight container until ready to serve.

How do I prevent my fudge from becoming too hard? Be sure not to overheat the white chocolate and follow the recommended setting times. If stored in the fridge, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes before serving.
